Bah Humbug!

I’ve never been a big fan of Christmas. Even as a child, I picked up on the stress all the adults were feeling, and as an adult, Christmas was filled with working holiday theatre or ballet productions and festivals that ran right up to Christmas, frequently followed by epic 20 hour drives to Houston, leaving no time or energy to enjoy any of it. Then COVID came, separating so many of us from family and friends and leaving us in isolation. So yeah – me and the Grinch are typically fast friends for the holidays.

This year, though, I seem to have found my way into Whoville, and I’m not certain it has made my heart grow three sizes, but it’s definitely growing. There’s cheer in the “Good Morning” wishes that greet me as I walk down the hall from the back door at Lewis to my office. There’s joy when I walk into Bain and see several Members, hunched over a jigsaw puzzle, laughing and chatting with folks they had never spoken to before that day. There’s excitement in plotting with Staff and Members to create a book club or a movie night series in 2023. There’s gratitude for the Members who have been kind enough to bring treats or buy lunch or offer an encouraging word. How could my heart not expand in such a place?

My wish for everyone this holiday season is that you find your moments in Whoville, whatever that looks like for you. And if you don’t have a Whoville in your universe, you’re always welcome to come spend some time in ours. Not gonna lie — it’s pretty magical.

From our tGSO family to yours, may all your days be merry and bright – and may your heart always be growing!

All good things,
Peggy
