4 Tips to Increase Productivity

There’s no doubt that this year has veered far from our expectations and makes life a little bit (more like A LOT) more interesting. Whether you had to start working remotely, or you worked from home regularly, how we’re productive has likely tweaked itself and has caused some confusion, and maybe even pressure on those unsure how to redirect their habits and day-to-day routine. We’ve scoured the internet to find the top tips on how to stay productive during these unprecedented times.


  1. Create a flexible schedule

WMAR2 News producer, Kelly, suggests that you need to create a schedule that is reasonable for you. If you weren’t a morning person pre-COVID19, you probably won’t become one overnight! Being realistic and honest with yourself about the tasks on your plate. Productivity Coach Rose-Anne Uwague says “If you don’t feel like doing something because you are drained, overwhelmed or tired, it is actually better not to do it”. 


  1. Prioritize your to-do list

This may be an obvious one, but prioritizing what needs to be done now versus tasks that could be done later is key to time management, as well as stress management! Someone with 20 tasks on their to-do list can be easily stressed out of their mind if they think everything needs to be done immediately. There are many occasions when we think we are prioritizing our to-do list, but what we are really doing is picking out the things we want to do versus pushing away the things we don’t really want to do. Be honest with yourself about what NEEDS to be done, versus what can wait! Your cortisol levels will thank you.


  1. Take breaks when needed

This does NOT mean watch an entire season of a show on Netflix in between work tasks (with an exception for The Office). This really just means that being self-aware of your own signs of exhaustion are really beneficial to your work productivity. A 10 minute walk can go a long way. You can find 5-10 minute meditation videos on Youtube. Even a small snack break helps, being hangry never helps productivity. Try to differentiate between when you are feeling bored versus when you are drained. A+ work can only be achieved when your mental health is being taken care of.


  1. Change of Scenery 

Changing your work setup can be key to increasing productivity. If you ever feel like you’re in a rut, grab your laptop and try a new place to work. Switching to a new location helps your brain reset and prepare for the next task. Try going outside, a different room in your house, or your favorite local coworking space in downtown Greensboro


Most importantly, it’s important to try different tips and see what works best for you and your lifestyle.
