Small Business or House of Cards?
As my daddy used to say, Lordamercy — what a week! Does your business have those weeks? Weeks where you think you’re on solid ground, moving forward and then some crazy thing happens and suddenly it feels like a house of cards when that one card gets pulled out, knocked down or something, and before you know it, you’re overwhelmed, scrambling to pick up the cards, trying to figure out what to do to get things back on track.

I think for we small businesses, it’s particularly hard. We’re often low on physical resources and riding a financial wave between success and closure. Many of us are startups and solopreneurs, who only have ourselves to rely on. It can be extraordinarily lonely operating a small business, especially if that one card that’s holding things together gets pulled out.

There’s a great joke that goes like this:
This guy’s walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can’t get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, ‘Hey you. Can you help me out?’ The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, ‘Father, I’m down in this hole can you help me out?’ The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a friend walks by, ‘Hey, Joe, it’s me can you help me out?’ And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, ‘Are you stupid? Now we’re both down here.’ The friend says, ‘Yeah, but I’ve been down here before and I know the way out.’

That is a big part of what makes Coworking spaces such an ideal place for your business home. No, your fellow entrepreneurs, solopreneurs and small business owners aren’t the be all and end all to your problems, but even when they don’t have an answer, a resource, a collaboration — they’re likely to be a great sounding board or provide perspective because a lot of them have been down in the hole before — and they know the way out.
No joke.
All good things and Happy Friday — we’ve got this!

In a world where social media has given everyone a public voice, our conversations seem to have devolved into anger and devisiveness. Our goal with this exhibit is to provide a space in which we can put down our megaphones and explore ideas together. Whether we come to a place of agreement or not, the act of transforming the nature of our conversations opens us all up to the possibility of connection. These five masterful artists give us a platform, both intimate and detached, through which we can explore the nature of ideas through a unique lens.
